Do you eat organic food, but never think twice about the chemicals in the personal care products you use on your skin? It’s not easy to find organic skin care and beauty products, but environmentalist and author Anna Lappe has expert tips.

How To Choose Organic Skin And Beauty Products

You may be unpleasantly surprised to learn that unlike food there is no government certified labeling program for organic ingredients in skin care and beauty products. So how can you tell whether you’re choosing organic cosmetics and skin care products or not?

* Read the labels, not just the name of the product. Some products will include the word organic in their name, but on closer inspection of the ingredients you wont find any organic ingredients at all.

* Check the label to see whether the ingredients include petroleum, synthetic preservatives or artificial colors. Also watch out for parabens and phthaltes.

* You can also consult the Environmental Working Groups Skin Deep website, www.cosmeticsdatabase.com. You can enter the name of the products you use and see whether they contain ingredients you want to avoid.

and also don’t use products tested on animals!

They don’t just apply a little lotion to the animal and let it be on its way…they actually tear them apart, burn their eyes with chemicals and kill them when testing is done because the animals (primarily rabbits, which are used in most testing) go insane from the long periods of torture…

So,please, go cruelty-free. Watch my video about it for more info.

    blessings!

The link is so helpful. I use it to look up ingredients in my products and figure out if it’s a “good” product or not. I encourage everyone to go on and find out the common ingredients that are bad and try to avoid them!

the video actually does tell you a lot. when choosing skin care/ beauty products, you must check the ingredients and AVOID parabens (methyl, propyl) which are artificial preservatives.. a cheap way for products to keep their shelf life. and phalates. also mineral oil (though it sounds like something good) is very bad bad bad. artificial dyes also. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO important. we are just finding out how bad these ingrediats are for our skin and overall health

Certain things are regulated, and the truth in labeling are listed. Read your labels. Even the web site may be surprised at the flaws it is reporting.
